Badi Malika: The legendary temple you must visit
Nepal
as a country offers numerous opportunities for people who like adventure and
trek but at the same time, it contains
rich culture and history to its credit. In addition to this, the country of Nepal
is considered to be really religious.
They worship a lot of gods, and the
residents are extremely religious. Every year they celebrate a lot of religious
festivals. These festivals are generally
celebrated for making their gods happy. Lord Shiva, as we all know is
highly revered god in Hindu mythology and even the people of Nepal worship Lord Shiva on a huge scale. Because of such
unparalleled love toward the Hindu gods, there are several temples in Nepal and
Badi Malika is one such temple.
Let
us take a look at how Badi Malika was formed. For this, we have to go through an ancient legend or myth. This myth is accepted by everyone who visits this temple
as well-
According
to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva and Sati
were married to each other. One day, Sati’s father, Daksha Prajapati, decided
to hold a grand Yagya (a kind of fire ritual). Everyone from the state
was invited to this yajna while
all the kings and rulers were invited by the
father of Sati himself. But, Sati’s
husband who is affectionately called Mahadev (Lord Shiva) was not invited for the Yagya. When Sati
inquired regarding the same from her father, King
Daksha told her that Lord Shiva’s inapt
dressing compelled him not to invite him.
On
knowing that her husband had been insulted, Sati
in her anger jumped into the fire and
gave up her life. As the news reached Lord Shiva, he decided to demolish the yagya and then later took Sati’s mortal body carrying all over the world.
During this journey, Sati’s body parts
started falling off, and her shoulder
fell off in Mallagiri Mountain. Hence, that’s how the temple got its name.
Even
though many locals wholeheartedly believe in this myth, it is a fascinating part of the information that has been passed on from one
generation to another. Apart from this, the interesting part about the foundation of this temple is the kind
of trek people follow to reach.
The
trek is really hard and is not something
everybody can accomplish. Even though the natural and scenic beauty during the
trek is unparalleled, at the same time, people who are physically unwell are
not advised to opt for it. In addition to this, geographically, the temple is
located on the top of 22 different plateaus which currently house around 200
species of flora.
And once you be at the top of
the temple, you can witness the grandeur of the Himalayan mountain
range. The scene is inexplicable, and you
need to visit the temple to understand the significance. You can read facts about it and view the images, but it cannot be justified without you being there.
Moreover,
the area of this temple also connects the three most important destinations in
the far west Nepal viz. Khaptad, Badi Malika area and Rama Roshan wetland area.
